The Ducati desmodromic and non desmodromic singles were for a long time an excellent choice for many privateers that participated in the 250cc production racing events that were so popular for many years in Italy and abroad. In the seventies long distance racing events gained popularity, and again the Ducati desmo and non desmo singles proved faithful and very successful contenders. Shown on the image is the Ducati
250, a
powerful and fast motorcycle that scored many impressive results on circuits all over Europe. It is shown in the paddock of Monza, during the 500km racing event which was one of the highlights of the year.
The Ducati singles would soon be replaced by the new 750 desmo Ducati V-twins. In the early 1970’s, long distance racing was extremely popular in Italy. These events were responsible for the quick gaining popularity of the heavier sports motorcycle, like the Ducati 750 SS, the Moto Guzzi V7 Sport, the Benelli 650 Tornado and the Laverda 750 SFC. Riders that would make world fame, like Franco Uncini and Marco Lucchinelli, all participated in these races before they made the steps to the Grand Prix World Championship racing scene.
