A superb and rare photo of the great
Piero Taruffi
in his TARF-GILERA Italcorsa record setting motorcycle.
Driver and engineer Piero Taruffi built the motorcycle in 1948. The unique bike was created because Taruffi wanted to build a car that had the features of a motorcycle. It’s twin-pod layout housed a 500cc 120-degree V-twin Moto Guzzi engine and chain drive in the right side and the driver and the fuel tank were in the left side. The 50hp engine had an intake valve in the nose of the the right pod and all the components were housed in it’s aluminum body work. It would become the
the fastest 500 in the world
with an average speed of just under 130 miles per hour and it would also set 5 other records in November of 1948.
