A superb and rare photo of the famousRhodesian Gary Hocking
sitting on the
M.V. Agusta 500cc four cylinder Grand Prix racer
just before the start of the 500cc (West)
German Grand Prix of 1961
which was held at the circuit of
Hockenheim
on the
14
th
of May 1961.
Gary
Hocking
would win the race on the photographed machine with an average speed of
120.27 mph
(193.56 km/hr), and he continued to win the 1961 500cc world championship!
He was a magnificent rider, not only did he win the 350cc and the 500cc world championships in 1961, but he also scored three 2
nd
world championship places in the 125cc, 250cc, 350cc classes on MV Agusta in 1960; and in 1959 he finished 2
nd
in the 250cc world championship on MZ.
This is a very nice
non period
photo that reflects a wonderful era in motorcycle history. It definitely is a classic shot. It is rare to obtain a photo like this, therefore it is printed in a nice large format of approx. " x " ( x
