John rode a factory Norton, which was virtually identical to the Norton 40m Manx production racer. John Hartle was 22 years old when this photo was taken. His great riding style can be admired in this beautiful image. He finished 3
rd
in the 350cc race and won the 500cc Grand Prix of Ulster , also on a Norton. He went on to finish 8
th
in the 350cc world championship and
3
rd
in the 500cc world championship of
1956. In
1958 he finished 2
nd
in the 350cc and 500cc world championship on MV Agusta, and in 1959 he finished 3
rd
in the 350cc world championship on a M.V. In 1960 he was back on a Norton, and finished 3
rd
in both the 350cc as the 500cc world championship.
