    Description

The check is dated February 21, 1917 and is
drawn on The Winters National Bank of Dayton. It is
made out to Hoban Brass Foundry for .55.
The cancellation mark slightly affects the O and the first L in Orville, but overall this is still a very strong signature on an Excellent to Mint condition check.
Here’s the backstory. In 1903 the Wright Brothers had to build their own engine because no engine existed that was light enough to fly and still generate the required horsepower.
The crankcase had to be light and strong. Aluminum was still a rare metal in those days and it was difficult to get a good casting. John Hoban, foreman of Buckeye Iron and Brass Foundry in Dayton, took on the job of making the crankcase using the strongest aluminum he had. The results made aviation history.
In 1905 Hoban left Buckeye and went into business for himself. The Wright Brothers moved their account to his new business, and this 1917 check demonstrates the continuation of that loyalty.
As an added bonus the reverse of the check is endorsed by John Hoban, machinist who helped build the very first engine used in powered flight.
There is no COA, but this is, after all, a check! And we are providing a full no-questions-asked money back guarantee--see details below.
